Self-indulgence

Planet Earth DVD set

I bought myself a copy of Planet Earth – The Complete BBC Series
from DiscoveryChannel.com. I plan to have some wine and finger foods ready as I  watch all five hours of it on Christmas Day with my kids. The score is to die for. More interesting is a song used for the intro of each episode, a song called The Time Has Come by Gabriel Shadid. “The time has come,” how fitting?

I’m also treating myself to some books for simple reading pleasure, which is something I haven’t done in a long time. My books have generally been “how to” information about film, filmmaking and marketing.  I’m going to relax these last few days before the New Year because afterwards I plan to get my shit together in a big way. Health. Career. Life. Love.

Biko

Right now I’m listening to “Biko” by Peter Gabriel and chilling hard. I remember this song from an episode of Miami Vice. It still holds vivid memories for me.  Gotta love music, huh?

Oh, and where’s the Amazon Kindle when you need it, LOL!

I haven’t seen Planet Earth, but I watched Earth: The Biography (6 hour miniseries) a few months ago and was moved immensely. Seeing the scientific history behind the creation of the planet, and how insignificant we are in comparison to the rest of the planet’s 4.5 billion year history really put things in perspective for me. I also realized that no matter what we do to destroy the planet, we’re not actually hurting the Earth. The Earth can and has recovered from catastrophic events before, and it will again. We’re only damaging mankind, and our ability to live comfortably here.

I saw the “Earth” series DVD in the DC store too. I may buy that one too, i believe it’s good viewing for the kids. And you’re right, regardless of how much we pollute it, the earth will survive (unless it’s hit by a Texas-sized meteor). We’ll just make humans extinct and the Earth will recover.

    Scary thought.

This is a brilliant piece of work…you will definitely enjoy it and want to watch it again and again (and your kids will probably want to join you).
