0-for-7 Broken Hearts Club Rejected by Newport Beach Fest
Dear Mr. Bell,
Thank you for submitting your film, The Broken Hearts Club for consideration in the 2009 Newport Beach Film Festival. We received over 2,000 films this year and have spent countless hours reviewing all submitted films. Each film was reviewed in its entirety by several people on the programming staff and our screening committee. It was an incredibly competitive season (read: we had some studios submit films with name actors) and we really appreciate you submitting your film. Unfortunately we are unable to screen your film this year (read: sorry charlie) but hope you will keep us in mind for future projects(read: we hope to get you submission fee next year as well). Thank you again for your time and passion for filmmaking.
Sincerely,
The Programming Staff of the 2009 Newport Beach Film Festival.
Want to know what the really interesting part of this was? We tried some very creative ways to get the film to the powers that be. And it still didn’t work.

I’ve got one more film festival that I’m waiting for. The Hollywood Black Film Festival. I’m still kicking myself in the ass because I missed this festival in 2008, and thus waited an entire year to submit. The HBFF is one of the more highly regarded niche festivals. So, I should here something by April 15th. After that, if I don’t get in
I’ll be moving full steam ahead for a DVD release.
Hey Angelo, I hope you don’t mind me asking this, when is the Movie gonna be ready for buying (Download & DvD)
Um, Jim-whoever-you-are-without-the-balls-to-add-a-link, don’t be an asshole. I didn’t say the other films “were just out to get my money.” However, unless you live in a cave somewhere, or are an idiot, you’d know that festivals DO survive and thrive off festival submission fees. So in that case, “yes” the other six festivals DID want my submission fee. Was it all they wanted? Probably not.
So the other 6 festivals who rejected you were just out to get your money too?
thank you. I’ll check your website.
I watched the trailer and thought you could try some of the European festivals, I post a lot on my Blog and often they don’t have entry fees so it makes it a lot less frustrating when the film isn’t selected and a lot more exciting when it is. At the moment I think The Corona Cork Film Festival in Ireland might be a good one to enter. It’s the largest film festival in Ireland so plenty of exposure if your film gets in.
