I posted an ad on Craigslist the other day to help raise post production funds for Resurrection of Serious Rogers. If you click on the link you’ll see how detailed I was. I got a response fairly quickly from this dood named Carlo who supposedly in a part of the DGA and SAG under an alias. Interesting.
Carlo sends me the email below–
My contact details:
Carlo XXXXX
aka XXXXX XXXXX DGA/SAG
xxxxx@gmail.com
www.xxxxxxfilms.com
First go to www.DGA.org and then to membership, then to xxxxx xxxxxsWe have various funding options to set up our films. With the right mix we could guarantee at least a very limited theatrical release for YOUR film.
Okay, I’ll bite. First thing I noticed (red flag) was the whole alias thing. But far be it from me to assume that actors don’t have “theatrical names.” So I go to the site and see that the above message is a cut& paste from the website. Okay, so Carlo didn’t take the time to send me a personal response. I get it. So I emailed him:
Thanks for your note. I’m intrigued and very interested in speaking with you. How should we proceed?
My cell number, email address and links to my film pages were there at the bottom of my email. This is what he sends back:
I’d say coffee, but 562 is a ways
My cell number is in the Long Beach area which is about 30 miles south of LA, where most film professionals live. This is where I choose to live because I have a family, but I drive up to LA when business takes me there. I shot most of my recent film up in Studio City, which is about 40 miles from my home.
However, I’m getting annoyed by the lack of information in his emails. No cell number. No example of what he means by “various funding options.” No information whatsoever. To me, it’s very clandestine. I’m sorry but I don have time to play games and fuck around. If you want to do business, let’s do business. If not, why even respond to my ad?
But let me give you readers some background…I’ve been making films since I started production on my first film in 2003. I’ve had many people say that they can help. 99.99% of them cannot or will not help. I’ve learned to take it with a grain of salt and let people’s real motives come to the surface — because real motives always show at some point.
So I decided to be direct in my next email:
Carlo,
If there’s something you think you can help with, I can certainly come up to LA or Burbank. However, I’d like some brief idea of what you propose. Your emails aren’t very forthcoming, and almost clandestine.
for me film funding is complicating and sophisticated
my resume is clear and all my works are SAG and DGA
I find your comments insultinghave a nice day
